According to him, the growing instability around the Suez Canal reflects risks that may not have been fully anticipated during recent regional military operations. Lessons learned during previous Red Sea attacks showed that relatively inexpensive and less sophisticated methods could generate far greater disruption to international trade than high-profile missile strikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to him, while missile launches attracted global headlines, the sinking of commercial vessels had a much greater operational impact on maritime transportation, insurance markets and regional trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Despite extensive U.S. military operations aimed at degrading Houthi capabilities during 2025, experts believe the group has rebuilt significant stockpiles of weapons and military assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ralby warned against assuming the Houthis remain as weakened as they appeared following previous military campaigns. He believes the organization currently possesses greater reserves than it did a year earlier and retains the ability to launch future maritime attacks if it chooses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Interestingly, he described the group’s current posture as showing an “unusual degree of restraint,” suggesting that its present level of activity may not reflect its actual operational capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another concern highlighted by maritime analysts is the Houthis’ expanding network of regional partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Experts believe the group has strengthened relationships with armed organizations that supported or admired its Red Sea campaign between 2023 and 2025. These reportedly include militant groups in the Horn of Africa as well as criminal organizations historically linked to arms trafficking and maritime piracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The possibility that allied groups could conduct attacks on behalf of the Houthis introduces a new layer of complexity for regional maritime security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Security analysts also warn that increasing piracy incidents off Yemen and Somalia are receiving relatively little attention because geopolitical events dominate headlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, they caution that these smaller incidents could become strategically important if criminal or militant groups begin operating as proxies, allowing the Houthis to conserve resources while preparing for larger operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to Ralby, this evolving strategy raises concerns that future attacks could involve coordinated efforts aimed at disrupting or even temporarily shutting down commercial traffic through the Red Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The latest developments reinforce growing concerns that maritime security risks are no longer confined to isolated attacks but are becoming increasingly interconnected across multiple regions.
