For Blue Sea Navigator, the launch represents an important milestone before the vessel begins its intended offshore operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Built for Deep-Sea Power Infrastructure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once commissioned, Blue Sea Navigator is expected to play a key role in China&#8217;s expanding offshore renewable-energy and submarine power infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vessel has been designed to install <strong>high-voltage submarine cables for deep-sea offshore wind farms<\/strong> and lay <strong>intercontinental submarine power cables<\/strong>, supporting the growing demand for offshore electricity transmission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At <strong>139.8 metres long and 38 metres wide<\/strong>, the vessel has a <strong>full-load displacement of approximately 35,000 tonnes<\/strong>. It can carry up to <strong>16,000 tonnes of cable<\/strong>, making it the largest cable-carrying vessel of its type in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its capabilities are designed specifically for demanding deep-water cable installation projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advanced Dynamic Positioning and Deep-Sea Capability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blue Sea Navigator is equipped with a <strong>DP-2 dynamic positioning system<\/strong>, allowing the vessel to maintain its position accurately during complex offshore operations without relying solely on traditional anchoring arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vessel is designed for operations in <strong>unlimited navigation areas<\/strong> and can work at water depths of up to <strong>3,000 metres<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to its designers, the vessel has been developed with enhanced resistance to strong winds and waves, alongside advanced deep-sea operating capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These characteristics will be particularly important when installing submarine power cables in challenging offshore environments, where precise vessel positioning and stable cable deployment are critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dual Cable-Laying Technology<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the vessel&#8217;s major technological features is its advanced cable-laying system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blue Sea Navigator uses <strong>coaxial dual cable reels with inner and outer drums<\/strong>, enabling it to handle different types of submarine power cables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The system is designed to lay both <strong>conventional alternating-current (AC) submarine power cables<\/strong> and <strong>next-generation flexible direct-current (DC) cables<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This capability could provide greater operational flexibility as offshore wind projects move farther offshore and submarine electricity transmission networks become increasingly sophisticated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Designed for Efficiency and Lower Emissions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vessel&#8217;s designers say Blue Sea Navigator is competitive with comparable international cable-laying vessels in several key areas, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maximum cable-carrying capacity on a single voyage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fuel consumption during cable-laying operations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Overall operational efficiency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its <strong>pure-electric propulsion system<\/strong> is another major feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vessel reflects the growing integration of new-energy technologies into commercial shipbuilding, particularly for specialized vessels operating in sectors closely linked to offshore renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The use of electric propulsion could help reduce emissions associated with vessel operations and contribute to broader efforts to decarbonize maritime activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Another Step in China&#8217;s Shipbuilding Expansion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The launch comes as China&#8217;s shipbuilding industry continues to strengthen its position in the global market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the first half of the year, China&#8217;s <strong>new ship orders increased by 105.2% year-on-year<\/strong>, while vessel completions rose by <strong>34.8%<\/strong> and the country&#8217;s order backlog increased by <strong>37.1%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">China accounted for approximately <strong>73.9% of global new orders, 55.4% of global completions and 63.3% of the global order backlog<\/strong> during the period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chinese shipyards also delivered more than <strong>40 high-end vessels<\/strong>, including container ships exceeding <strong>10,000 TEU<\/strong>, very large crude carriers and large liquefied natural gas carriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several Chinese shipyards are reportedly operating at full capacity, with some orderbooks extending beyond <strong>2029<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Green Ships and the Future of Maritime Infrastructure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Li Chang\u2019an of the University of International Business and Economics said the launch represents an important step toward the vessel&#8217;s eventual delivery and operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted that once operational, Blue Sea Navigator could strengthen China&#8217;s engineering capabilities in <strong>marine renewable energy and offshore power infrastructure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vessel also highlights a wider industry trend: the increasing use of green propulsion technologies in specialized commercial vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As offshore wind farms expand into deeper waters and electricity transmission networks increasingly depend on subsea infrastructure, demand for advanced cable-laying vessels is expected to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blue Sea Navigator therefore represents more than a new vessel entering the water.
