This invisible layer is called the atmosphere and is held around the Earth by gravitational force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In meteorology, the most important part of the atmosphere is the lower layer known as the troposphere. The major gases present in the atmosphere are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nitrogen &#8211; 78%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oxygen &#8211; 21%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other Gases &#8211; 1%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"438\" height=\"301\" src=\"https:\/\/marinersupdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-23-174158.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-475\" style=\"width:438px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marinersupdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-23-174158.png 438w, https:\/\/marinersupdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-23-174158-300x206.png 300w, https:\/\/marinersupdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-23-174158-230x158.png 230w, https:\/\/marinersupdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-23-174158-350x241.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 438px) 100vw, 438px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The remaining small percentage includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Argon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carbon dioxide<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helium<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ozone<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Although these gases are essential for life, meteorology mainly focuses on water vapour because it plays a major role in weather formation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER VAPOUR<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Water vapour is the invisible moisture present in the atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though it exists in small quantities, it is extremely important because it controls many weather processes such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cloud formation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rainfall<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Snowfall<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fog and mist<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Humidity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thunderstorm development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The quantity of water vapour constantly changes due to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Evaporation from oceans, rivers, and lakes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Temperature variations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Condensation processes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Precipitation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HOW WATER VAPOUR ENTERS THE ATMOSPHERE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sun heats oceans, seas, lakes, and rivers causing water to evaporate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This water changes into invisible water vapour and rises into the atmosphere.
