The Indian Navy has successfully completed a highly complex and dangerous Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operation involving the recovery and safe disposal of an unexploded missile warhead discovered onboard the crude oil tanker MT Olympic Life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Marshall Islands-flagged tanker, carrying no Indian nationals onboard, was sailing from Fujairah, UAE, to Kochi, India, when it reported an explosion in its hull while operating off the coast of Oman on 26 May 2026. During subsequent assessments, the vessel identified the presence of unexploded ordnance onboard and continued its voyage towards Kochi under close monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the report received through the Information Fusion Centre \u2013 Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), the Indian Navy immediately initiated a coordinated response. The Southern Naval Command, based in Kochi, deployed a specialist Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to assess the threat and determine the safest course of action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A detailed inspection revealed a startling discovery. A projectile had penetrated the vessel’s hull, passed through multiple structural compartments, and ultimately became lodged inside a fuel storage tank.
