winches came into force from 1 January 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2713 Existing ships must comply by their first renewal survey on or after 1 January 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2713 Applies to lifting appliances, anchor handling winches, and associated loose gear, with specified exemptions for certain vessel types and equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2713 Lifting appliances with SWL below 1,000 kg are exempt from the new SOLAS requirements and continue under existing Isle of Man regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2713 All lifting appliances must be designed, constructed, and installed in accordance with the requirements of a Recognised Organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2713 New installations must undergo load testing and thorough examination before being put into service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2713 Major repairs or modifications affecting strength, SWL, structural integrity, or functionality require re-testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2713 All lifting appliances must be permanently marked with their Safe Working Load (SWL) and supported by documentary evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2713 Existing lifting appliances must be tested, examined, marked, and documented during the first applicable renewal survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2713 Maintenance, inspections, and operational testing must be carried out by a responsible person appointed by the company or Master.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2713 Malfunctioning lifting equipment is not automatically a PSC deficiency or detention if properly maintained and appropriate risk mitigation measures are implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Credit: Isle of Man Ship
