IMO Approves NOx Code Amendment (MEPC.398(83))
Key Updates:
- New rules for certification of modified marine engines
- Applies when engines undergo substantial modification or shift to a different NOx Tier
- Introduces new engine emission test procedures
- Requires updated engine nameplate if power/speed changes
- Certification allowed for individual engine or engine group (not family)
Testing & Compliance:
- Minimum 85% load required for test cycle (if achievable)
- New engine emission test plan approval needed
- Monitoring of ambient conditions & performance mandatory
Timeline:
- Deemed accepted: 1 March 2026
- Entry into force: 1 September 2026
